The documents are scanned in a PDF format, and you can save it to your desired destination like the Cloud, USB Flash drive, SMB Share, or any folder of your choice. The Raven Original Document Scanner has features and functions that can scan almost every document on your desk. The scanner is economical and looks good too. It can scan up to an A4 size paper so you can scan all your documents with much ease. The resolution on the scanner is excellent, with an optical dpi of 600. The CIS sensor on the scanner is best suited for documents. This scanner is great if you need to share documents. You don’t need a computer with the Ethernet connection and Wi-Fi up to 2.4GHz you can transfer any scanned document. On the simplex mode, you can scan up to 17 sheets in a minute. If you use the automatic duplex mode, it will increase the scans to 34 sheets per minute. Enough for most demands, this scanner can scan up to 1500 sheets in a day.

The scanner is compact and light in weight, so you can easily install it at home. Raven Original has standard OCR, so your pages can be scanned to PDF and keep the text to OCR. No matter what the size of the document, the scanner will automatically detect the format. If you’re scanning a mixed batch of papers, it’s going to be a cakewalk as the scanner has an auto-color detection feature. The blank page detection feature removes manual intervention of removing blank pages, increasing productivity.

Pros:

  • It has a compact size and light in weight, making it easy to fit even in tight spaces.

Cons:

  • The CIS sensor is not apt for high-quality images. Our guess is you’re not planning to use it for artwork.

The Raven Pro Scanner converts all your documents, business cards, and receipts into searchable files. It can scan documents up to A4 size with much ease. The resolution of the scanner is 600 dpi, that’s what you should expect from good scanners. Raven Pro has a CIS sensor that is suitable for document scanning. Like some of the best scanners, this scanner also connects through Ethernet and Wi-Fi. The scanner is not designed as a desktop scanner so you can easily share documents digitally. It scans at high speeds, scans around 60 pages in a minute.

Raven Pro has a compact and attractive design, so it not only looks good, but you can fit it even in a tight space. You can integrate your software into the scanner. You can use TWAIN to interface the driver. You can scan 6000 pages in a day. If you feed the scanner with excess sheets, it will detect the same and stop scanning. The Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) can hold 100 documents at a time. For a small and compact scanner, it is an excellent value. The Raven Pro comes with some extra features like crop and rotate; this saves a lot of productive time.

Pros:

  • Easy to install and use
  • It fits in tight spaces
  • It scans 120 pages in duplex mode.
  • The scanner has features like auto color detection and blank page detecting.
  • The Raven Pro has a background cleaning feature that makes the document much cleaner with a smoother background.

Cons:

  • The scanner is not multi-stream enabled, but with the auto color detection, it shouldn’t make much of a difference.

Conclusion

Although the same manufacturer makes both the scanners, there are a couple of notable differences between the two. The Raven Pro is slightly bigger than the Raven Original. The scanning speed on both is very different – Pro scans 60 pages in a minute while the Original scans 17 pages per minute. The Pro automatically crops and rotates images. Both have an auto feeder; however, the Pro can hold 100 sheets at a time. Both can scan directly to your network folder on your computer.

We recommend you determine your requirements and invest according to your workload if you’re dealing with heavy paperwork daily, we recommend the Pro. If you have light/medium paperwork to deal with, we suggest the Original.
